Milestones in Our History
From a higher institute to a leading hub of engineering technology
1976
Establishment of the “Higher Institute of Mechanics and Electricity” to graduate engineering technologists and fill the shortage in qualified national cadres.
1995
The name was changed to “Faculty of Engineering – Houn” and the Civil Engineering Department was added. The study period was extended to five years to award a B.Sc. degree.
1995
The college was selected by UNESCO to conduct technical training courses for skilled technicians of the Great Man-Made River project.
2002
Postgraduate studies were launched and several graduates earned Technical Postgraduate Diplomas and Master’s degrees.
2005
Training programs were carried out to enhance the skills of engineers and technicians of the Railway Implementation and Management Authority in partnership with German experts.
2010
The current name “College of Engineering Technology – Houn” was adopted, and the college became affiliated with the Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education.
Today, after nearly five decades, more than 2200 engineers have graduated from the college, contributing effectively to all sectors of the country.
